Airport

It was November 11, 2001; a layover in NYC on my way to the Netherlands. I knew in my heart that Hans was the person for me, but realizing that my life was about to change significantly was terrifying. I gave up a job I loved, my friends, my apartment. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, except literally following my heart (!)
It was dark outside and as I stood at the payphone to let you know I was getting ready to board, you both told me that we would meet in Ireland for Christmas so you could meet Hans. And we did.
Thank you.

Some of my favorite and most clear memories as a little girl, a teenager and adult are connected to the beach.
When Brendan and I were little during the summers, I remember Mum up bright and early to pack snacks, lunch, towels and toys. We were generally out the door and in the car before 8am. The beach was almost always empty and and it felt like we were in the most beautiful place in the world!
We would spend the entire day; or until it got crowded.
Mum taught us how to make wet sand ‘drip’ castles, and often would take us to the Tides for an ice cream.
It has been a joy to be able to share this place with Minh and Shen since they were babies. They associate so much of what they love about America with it; and why Minh has enjoyed celebrating so many birthdays on that beach and at the Tides.
